Sadness could be tired, after staying at the peak of positive emotions.

it is Important to distinguish melancholy from sadness. Sadness is not associated with the traumatic event. Sadness is a reaction to the stressful situation. Sadness caused by loss, often accompanied by apathy and inaction.

One of the functions of emotions - motivating. A call to action has 2 choices: either a ‘moving From” or the ‘move To’.

Either we are out and repressed emotions (movement From), or live and find solutions to resolve situations which are associated with a specific emotion (motion To).

So the realization of sadness can become a source of motivation to change things for the better, to resolve the frustration; to change our attitude to the past (an active emotion).
If the child childhood close friends were forbidden to feel sad, then in adult life people suppresses and displaces the sadness. In situations of serious failures instead of analyzing and solving starts to get stuck on the negative, can fall into a state of melancholy, depression, feeling of boredom or emptiness (destructive emotions).
