I think many of you heard the psychological term ‘learned helplessness". The condition of learned helplessness means a failure (or unwillingness) of a person to change his life, to escape from adverse circumstances, to attempt in any way to improve his state (even if possible). Very often this condition is accompanied by passivity, disbelief in own forces, feelings of lack of freedom, loss of control, depression, depression.

unfortunately, among people suffering from panic attacks, neuroses, personality disorders state of learned helplessness is extremely common (and often it is the basis of neurosis and personality disorders).

Learned helplessness is a domestic installation, the conviction of the impossibility to change anything in your life, because, as a rule, its appearance is associated with external circumstances and factors. Learned helplessness is usually formed in childhood as the result of a collision with uncertainty (mostly from parents).

Inconsistent and uncertain attitude of parents to the child and his upbringing does not allow to develop the child's sense of control and autonomy. Simply put, these children constantly feel dependent on the mood of the parents, their actions, their relationships. Such children have no opportunity to learn to rely on themselves, for their “I”. And not necessarily in such cases, the upbringing of children must be rigid, as Hyper on the part of parents can lead to absolutely the same results.

Children growing up in such families can't start to show independence at an early age, and later they don't see the point in starting this independence to master, as parental influence is not going away in 5 years, 20 years.

When such people begin to live independent adult lives, they, as a rule, when faced with difficulties, not find the strength somehow to overcome them.

It may not always be expressed in all spheres of life, often learned helplessness can manifest locally and situationally. In the case of the same neuroses and panic attacks learned helplessness is best through the sense of loss of control. And the longer a person can not cope with a state of neurosis, the stronger and the expression of  the state of helplessness, the faster and more intense it applies to all spheres of life of such a person.

fortunately, learned helplessness can be overcome, though it will require quite a lot of time and effort. Just specify to do it yourself is almost impossible, because learned helplessness is formed, usually in childhood, and largely determines the further perception of the man himself and the surrounding world. Therefore to overcome this condition to the presence of another person who can help and point out those attitudes and beliefs that hinder a person begin to live an independent life, relying on themselves, for their “I”.

Psychotherapy learned helplessness consists of several stages and involves the development and formation of consciousness (without which it is impossible to see the mechanisms shumopodavleniya), healthy “I” and healthy psychological boundaries.

Duration of therapy for this condition depends on the severity of the learned helplessness and takes from several months to several years (in very advanced cases).
