WHAT IS PERSONAL THERAPY FOR the THERAPIST.

Now almost all potential clients looking for a good therapist, you know that the therapist should have experience of personal therapy. What does it mean?

Passage personal therapy for the future or already practising specialist means that he, being himself in the position of the patient, working on their problems with another therapist from the professional community - often with his older colleague.

the Psychological health of the therapist is an important key to his successful work with his patients! br>

"WILD THERAPIST".

As stated in a grim professional joke - "wild therapist" or "the kitchen therapist" is a therapist, worked their problems in personal therapy and do not have experience of supervision.

Often in this position are professional, educated "psychologist", and not continuing the work and his professionalism in these aforementioned two directions.

IMPORTANT THAN PERSONAL THERAPY FOR the professional AND FOR HIS WORK WITH PATIENTS.

  • THERAPY – HOW the TREATMENT of their OWN "wounds" AND psychological trauma.

for anybody not a secret that psychology often are special people themselves confronted with personal pain, often with their own psychological trauma. Most often, it is not a defect and not an obstacle for the profession. On the contrary – is, relatively speaking, a "healthy" person will be interested to understand someone else's psychopathology, for hours listening to someone else's troubles and behold the tears?

Own pain motivates people to go into this profession and see his calling in alleviating the pain of others.

But with the obligatory condition of this person to be a professional, you have to work out your difficulties in personal therapy!

the Exceptions are cases of gross pathology, the nature and low level of personality organization – if, even with therapy, it may be a contraindication to this profession!

the Famous Moscow Gestalt therapist said the important words: "she is "scarred". "Wounds" can not work!"

Therefore, skilled important, to the extent possible, to resolve problems and heal their "wounds". I.e. in his own therapy "wounds" have healed and become scars!

  • knowing YOURSELF AS a WAY of UNDERSTANDING the PATIENT.

the Therapist it is important to understand the different parts of his personality, to understand the structure of nature, learn to understand their feelings, motives of his actions. To get acquainted with their destructiveness, different aspects of psychopathology and as much as possible to work this out - i.e. to ensure that its own operation has become more satisfactory and harmonious.

understanding of ourselves helps us to understand another person at the same time separating itself from it without falling in the merge (see below).

the more time the technician has paid the passage of their own therapy, the better.

When someone accidentally found out about my therapeutic a long way, are often followed by similar and fun for me reaction: "Oh my God! Is it really so bad?!")))

But this client is sometimes say "the street" - having treated her "bad", can complete therapy.

For me, as a PROFESSIONAL, (and I know many of my colleagues too) therapy did not end on the solution of painful problems. Further analysis for me was not so much work on psychological difficulties, as a study of his unconscious, further knowledge of their psyche.

the Discovery in itself the most profound regressive hell, the most vile passions (even the micro), even the smallest manifestations of pervertness, will help professionals to understand complex patients to avoid positions of arrogance and haughtiness towards them.

in addition, specialist assisting is very important, as they say, "the hard way" to feel what it means to be patient. to Feel – what was it like when faced with the words of the therapist that are look at you, who really do not want to miss, and frustrating to acknowledge himself as such. What it's like to face the reality that you want to hide, from where you hurt and want to cry. What a feeling when you pay a missed session that was not held because of your cancellation.

having experienced it myself, it is more likely that the therapist will be more sensitive and correct in the work with your patient.

  • the ELABORATION of the EXPERT AS PROTECTION FROM the CONFLUENCE WITH the PATIENT.

Therapist, may not understand his difficulties and problems may sometimes merge with the patient.

If the "wild therapist" works with the theme of the client, which resonates with its own history (for example, the theme of physical violence or bullying in the school years), it is, relatively speaking, "inner wound" that will "bleed" every time when touching a painful subject.

Seeing superficially similar situation in the history of the client, the therapist may ignore the differences pathologically by uniting himself with the patient in a falsely unified "we", "us it is."

In this case, the therapist is not able to feel her separateness, autonomy, and the autonomy of the patient, which, even in a similar situation, remains, Others, Yourself.

Experience of understanding and living their pain and their psychological trauma, allows the therapist to otherevery something painful that happened in his life, and not into the merge, when he can hear similar themes in the stories patients (divorce, death, disease, violence).

If these topics are not elaborated in the personal therapy of the specialist, it may happen that the most harmless that can make such a psychologist is a chorus of crying over all this, along with my client not being able to share their pain.

  • PROTECTION of the PATIENT FROM the THERAPIST's PROJECTIONS.

"Wild therapist" without knowing yourself, can be projected on the patient some of his parts (feelings, desires) and to work not with a real, live person, with their projections.

for Example, if the therapist is going through a divorce, and left after him with certain feelings - he can attribute these feelings to the patient, not realizing that the latter can be very different experiences.

  • protect the PATIENT FROM meeting HIS end to the UNCONSCIOUS NEEDS of the THERAPIST.

developmental work of the specialist is to protect the patient because the therapist will unconsciously(!) to satisfy their needs and requirements at the customer's expense.

for Example, a psychologist might need to be good and to love and gratitude of patients. But then a professional will unconsciously broadcast his patient that he is ready to hear from the last only good, flowing, with negative experiences, feelings and thoughts.

Or due to the patient's therapist can meet their own again, unconscious(!) sadistic needs (and it happens - we are all real people, with different part of his personality).

This can lead to the fact that such an expert can hurt with words or to make too much frosterus (painful) interpretations. Or intervention may sound too rigid in form.

In the personal therapy of these parts of the therapist must be realized and developed.

I do not want to scare potential customers "so terrible")) therapists. Rather, such difficulties in the work meet the specialists who are beginning their practice (and we were all once beginners, and it is "not sin"!), but it is important that the therapist continues to work on myself and ready to deal with these complexities of the profession.

  • the THERAPY AS a DEFENSE SPECIALIST FROM FADING.

I often say another funny sounding phrase to me: "Oh, you have such a hard profession, you are all the negative customers pass through itself!" "You must be hard then?!" "How can you defend against this?!" "Probably put the barrier, mentally doing a "cocoon" around yourself or put "safety glass?"")))

No! I don't resort to such "magical techniques", but don't go "with a backpack of negativity" taken from the patients! And, if we talk in these expressions, then protection can be only one – personal therapy/analysis. The therapist, who has worked for the pain in personal therapy, not merged with the client, and "does not take all the suffering myself."

Rather, he for a short time, must feel the pain of the customer, putting yourself in his place and being in his shoes (i.e. showing empathy), and then to step back and restore its neutrality.

I believe a personal elaboration of one of the protection experts from professional burnout, because, really, it was impossible to suffer "in unison" with others.

SHOULD a SPECIALIST UNDERGO YOUR THERAPY while WORKING WITH the PATIENT?

There is some illusion that working with the patient therapist "AND NOW" must undergo personal therapy. One potential patient for a long time asked me not just did I have my therapy, and repeated many times: "AND NOW COME, TOO?" she seemed to be the key to the success of our future work.

In the practice of the therapist there are different stages in one of them he can be in their own therapy, to the other – it will be already completed, the next phase, the specialist may feel the need to repeat the course of therapy with another specialist.

But I will disappoint lovers of that therapy was with a psychologist "AND NOW." It is possible, and normal, but most of all, it's not ideal. It does have its advantages, but there are also disadvantages" - then all experiences of the therapist, his own fears, anxiety, sorrows are the actual (disturbed) state.

In my opinion, better if they, at the conclusion of therapy, will settle and will become the past experience of the therapist.
